Qatar’s Family Consulting Center (Wifaq) has launched a new First Year of Marriage awareness and counselling programme in partnership with Qatar University (QU), aimed at supporting newly married students and promoting stronger, more stable families.
The initiative is designed to help newlyweds build healthy relationships by strengthening family values, increasing self-awareness and developing practical skills for navigating the early stages of married life.
Focus on communication and conflict management
The programme addresses several areas that can help couples establish a strong foundation for their relationship, including effective communication, conflict management, understanding differences between partners, dialogue and cooperation.
Family and social counselling specialists are delivering the programme through a combination of evidence-based guidance and interactive learning activities. The approach is intended to help couples understand common challenges and develop practical ways to address them.
The programme also supports long-term family stability and aligns with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly its focus on strengthening society and supporting family well-being.
Supporting students beyond academics
Wifaq Community Outreach Department Director Lulwa Al Yazidi said the initiative reflects the centre’s preventive approach to supporting couples and highlighted the importance of establishing strong marital foundations from the beginning.
She said the partnership with Qatar University also enables Wifaq to work with national and academic institutions to expand family awareness programmes and reach students while continuing to develop services that respond to the needs of Qatari families.
QU Student Activities Department Director Abdulla Hamid Almulla said the programme reflects the university’s commitment to supporting students’ psychological and social well-being alongside their academic development.
Building stronger families
The collaboration between Wifaq and Qatar University highlights the importance of providing young couples with guidance and practical tools as they begin married life.
By promoting open communication, mutual understanding and constructive approaches to resolving disagreements, the programme seeks to help newlyweds develop stronger relationships and manage challenges more effectively.
The initiative forms part of wider efforts in Qatar to strengthen family cohesion and support the well-being and stability of emerging families.
