Self-Driving Robotaxi
Qatar's public transport operator, Mowasalat (Karwa), has conducted a public trial of a self-driving robotaxi at Old Doha Port, allowing selected members of the public to experience autonomous mobility in a controlled, real-world environment.
The trial, held on January 26, involved participants chosen from an online application process. The initiative aimed to engage the public, gather feedback and improve awareness and understanding of autonomous vehicle technology.
According to Mowasalat, the robotaxi operates using advanced autonomous driving systems supported by sensors and real-time monitoring, enabling it to navigate designated routes safely and efficiently. All journeys were carried out under strict safety protocols within a defined operational area.
Participants took part in supervised rides, giving them the opportunity to observe the vehicle's performance, responsiveness and passenger-focused features.
The company said the trial also helped address public perceptions and build confidence in autonomous transport solutions.
Mowasalat said the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to explore innovative transport technologies that support safer, smarter and more sustainable mobility.
Feedback collected during the trial will be used in future evaluations and potential next phases of autonomous transport projects.
The company said the successful trial represents a further step towards advancing the future of mobility in Qatar, with public engagement playing a central role in the development of new transport solutions.
