In its ongoing efforts to ease traffic congestion and promote sustainable mobility across Doha, the Ministry of Transport (MoT) is actively encouraging residents to make use of the Park & Ride service — a free facility that allows commuters to park their cars near key Doha Metro stations and continue their journeys by public transport.

The initiative, part of Qatar’s Public Bus Infrastructure Program, aims to reduce private car use, cut down carbon emissions, and support a shift towards greener, more efficient transport solutions.

At present, four Park & Ride hubs are operational in Al Wakra, Al Qassar, Lusail, and Education City, offering more than 1,000 parking spaces in total. These sites are strategically located next to high-demand metro stations, giving commuters an easy and cost-free option to avoid driving into busy areas of central Doha, particularly during rush hours.

In a recent social media post, the MoT highlighted the convenience of the service, noting: “Do you often struggle to find parking when taking the Doha Metro or bus? We encourage you to use the free Park & Ride facilities near Al Qassar Metro Station on the Red Line.”

The Park & Ride scheme was first introduced in 2020, with facilities at Al Wakra and Al Qassar, before later expanding to Lusail and Education City. It represents a major step forward in the country’s integrated transport strategy.

According to the Ministry, the program plays a central role in creating a modern, eco-friendly public transport system that supports the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 — combining environmental sustainability, economic progress, and improved quality of life. Alongside Park & Ride, the MoT is also promoting greater use of the Doha Metro, Lusail Tram, and electric buses, all of which are shaping a smarter urban transport landscape as Qatar prepares for future growth and international events.
