The Arab League urged the international community on Monday to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and take urgent action to protect defenseless civilians in the Gaza Strip and provide them with urgent relief and humanitarian aid without restrictions or hindrances.

In a humanitarian appeal launched on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, which falls on Aug. 19 of each year, the Arab League said that Gaza must be in the conscience of the world, and that humanitarian work is not complete without standing with Gaza by all possible means of support, relief, and advocacy.

It added that Gaza is still bleeding from pain, hunger, destruction, and a severe shortage of medicine, water, and food due to the stifling siege and the starvation policy pursued by Israel (the occupying power) against more than two million Palestinians.

The Arab League described the situation in the Gaza Strip as the most horrific humanitarian disaster in modern times, amid the international community's silence. The famine is worsening day by day, amid the ongoing war of genocide waged by Israel (the occupying power), the destruction of infrastructure, the cessation of all aspects of human life in the Gaza Strip, and the forced displacement of innocent people from their land.

The Arab League also voiced its gratitude and appreciation to all those working in humanitarian organizations in the Arab region and around the world, who dedicate their lives to serving humanity and protecting the innocent, including children and the elderly, during crises, disasters, and armed conflicts.

They contribute to alleviating suffering and saving the lives of all those in need of assistance, carrying the noble message of humanity that stems from the noble values we believe in in our Arab homeland. They continue to perform their humanitarian duty despite the challenges and dangers they face.

The Arab League affirmed its full solidarity with Arab peoples suffering from humanitarian crises, noting its unwavering commitment to continuing to support the most vulnerable groups through its specialized ministerial councils, which constantly work to meet the needs of Arab countries experiencing crises, disasters, and conflicts. It also commended all noble humanitarian efforts undertaken by Arab countries to serve humanity.

It also emphasized respect for the rules of international humanitarian law and the Fourth Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilians, the protection of humanitarian workers from any attack or targeting, and the guarantee of a safe environment that enables them to carry out their noble humanitarian mission.
