South Korean President Lee Jae Myung pledged to pursue a three-stage plan for North Korea's denuclearization, stressing that Seoul will work with Pyongyang through dialogue, based on its close alliance with the US.
In a newspaper interview ahead of his visit to Tokyo for summit talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, the Korean President explained that the first phase of the plan aims to freeze North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.
He added that the second and third phases aim to completely reduce and dismantle the nuclear program, noting that Seoul, while maintaining close coordination with Washington, will strive to create the appropriate conditions for resuming inter-Korean dialogue to achieve this goal.
