Police in India have arrested six men accused of masquerading as officers and collecting fake âdonationsâ from a sham law enforcement office.
In a statement released late Sunday, authorities said the suspects were running an operation called the âInternational Police and Crime Investigation Bureauâ out of a rented space in Noida, near New Delhi. The office was styled with police-like colors, symbols, and logos to appear official.
Investigators claim the group falsified documents and certificates, built a website, and used it to solicit money from targets, all while pretending to be connected to Interpol and other international crime agencies. The suspects allegedly posed as legitimate public officials to gain trust.
During the bust, police confiscated mobile phones, cheque books, forged stamps, and fake ID cards.
The arrests come shortly after another case in the region, where a man was caught operating a counterfeit âWest Arctic embassyâ from a rented home. He is accused of tricking job seekers out of money by posing as the ambassador of imaginary countries such as West Arctica, Saborga, Poulvia, and Lodonia.
