The Qatar youth boxing team returned to Doha yesterday after an impressive showing at the Asian Youth Championship in Bangkok, held from July 30 to August 12.
Among the highlights was Fares Al Thani’s exceptional performance, earning a bronze medal in the +90kg category — a new milestone for Qatar’s boxing history at the continental level.
The team received a warm welcome at Hamad International Airport, where they were greeted by Sheikh Fahad bin Khalid Al Thani, President of the Qatar Boxing and Wrestling Federation; Sultan Hassan Al Jammali, Secretary General; and Ghanem Saleh Al Kuwari, Board Member and Head of the Boxing Committee. The officials congratulated Fares and the entire team, reaffirming their commitment to supporting and developing the sport while preparing athletes for future competitions.
Sheikh Fahad praised the squad’s performance, stating: “We are proud of what Fares Al Thani achieved at the Asian Youth Championship. This result reflects hard work, dedication, and continuous training. It shows we are moving in the right direction to build a generation capable of representing Qatar on the world stage. We remain committed to nurturing young talent and providing optimal conditions to achieve more victories.”
Fares’ podium finish represents a major step forward in his career, showcasing his skill, determination, and fighting spirit. His achievement not only earned him a medal but also the honor of raising Qatar’s flag high in a tournament that saw intense competition from Asia’s finest young boxers.
