Qatar Named Most Peaceful Country in MENA for the 7th Time in Global Peace Index 2025

Qatar has once again secured its position as the most peaceful nation in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), according to the 2025 Global Peace Index (GPI), released by the Institute for Economics and Peace.

This marks the seventh time Qatar has topped the regional rankings since the index's inception — reaffirming its consistent commitment to security, stability, and peaceful governance. On a global scale, Qatar now ranks 27th among 163 countries and territories, placing it among the top 50 most peaceful nations worldwide.

The Global Peace Index assesses 99.7% of the world's population, using 23 data-driven indicators grouped under three core pillars:
Societal Safety and Security
Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict
Militarisation

While the 2025 report highlights a concerning global trend — with peace levels declining for the sixth consecutive year — Qatar stood out as a regional exception, maintaining relative stability despite increasing unrest across the MENA region.

The report attributes the overall drop in peacefulness largely to conflicts in Gaza, Syria, Sudan, and Palestine, which continue to cause widespread instability. According to GPI data, the genocide in Gaza, triggered by events starting on October 7, 2023, has had a ripple effect, escalating tensions across neighboring countries like Lebanon, Iran, Yemen, and Syria. Over 63,750 lives have been lost in Gaza alone — a number that’s likely underestimated.

In contrast, Qatar’s minimal score change of just 0.99% reflects its ongoing role in regional diplomacy. Doha’s hosting of key peace negotiations — including the recent Congo–Rwanda peace talks — further cements its status as a diplomatic and peaceful regional power.

The Global Peace Index remains the leading benchmark for measuring peacefulness worldwide, and Qatar’s consistent ranking underscores its reputation as a safe, stable, and peace-promoting nation in a turbulent region.
