FIBA Asia Cup
The Qatari national basketball team qualified for the finals of the 31st edition of the FIBA ??Asia Cup (Saudi Arabia 2025), as well as qualifying for the qualifiers for the World Cup (Qatar 2027), after defeating host Kazakhstan 92-71 in the match that took place Friday at the "Jekbey Jek Saray" hall in the capital Astana, as part of the third Asian window of Group 5 matches, which also includes the Iranian and Indian teams.
The results of the four periods of the match were (20-13), (25-16), (29-23) and (18-19) in favor of the Qatari team.
In a second match that took place in the same group, the Iranian team achieved a great victory over its Indian counterpart (106-55).
With the end of the fifth round of group qualifiers, the Iranian team topped the overall standings with 9 points, followed by the Qatari team in second place with 8 points, then the Indian and Kazakh teams, each with 6 points.
Iran and Qatar have secured qualifying to the Asian Cup finals regardless of the matches of the sixth and final round of qualifiers, while the Indian and Kazakh teams will compete for the third place card to play a new qualifier in order to compete for qualification.
The 2025 Asian Cup qualifiers, scheduled to be held in the Saudi city of Jeddah from August 5-17.
