Nepal Presents Two Asian Elephants to Al Khor Park
The Ministry of Municipality has announced the arrival of two Asian elephants at Al Khor Park, marking a significant gesture of friendship between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Nepal.
The elephants were gifted by the government and people of Nepal, reflecting the strong bilateral relations and deep-rooted bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. This initiative follows the official visit of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to Nepal in 2024, during which the gift was formally announced.
The pair includes one male and one female elephant, both born at the Elephant Breeding and Training Center in Sauraha, located within Chitwan National Park. The female elephant, named Rudra Kali, is seven years old and weighs approximately 1,200 kilograms, while the male, Khagendra Prasad, is six years old and weighs around 1,190 kilograms. Both elephants are dark grey in colour.
According to the Ministry, the elephants were transferred to their designated residence at Al Khor Park immediately upon their arrival on the evening of Wednesday, December 17, 2025. The Ministry noted that the elephants are highly trained, capable of positive interaction with their surroundings and the public, and are expected to adapt quickly to their new environment.
The addition of the elephants is expected to significantly enhance the educational, tourism, and recreational value of Al Khor Park, while enriching the overall experience for visitors. The initiative also underscores Qatar’s commitment to cultural exchange, environmental awareness, and strengthening international partnerships.
